We are doing it for London – and here’s why!
It’s a huge month for us here at Leyland SDM as we continue our fundraising exploits for Macmillan Cancer Support with our Do It For London campaign.
We are all aware of the exceptional support Macmillan provides across the country and the money we raise will be focused on the charity’s activity in London.
Keyur Patel, from Hounslow, knows all about the important role Macmillan can play for an individual.
It was back in 2012 when a 31-year-old Keyur was given the shattering news that he had been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia.
“The point when I was diagnosed was a really tough moment and I was told I must prepare for the fact that I might not survive the next three months,” said Keyur, known as Kiwi. “At 31, I was told I might die.”
Step forward Macmillan Cancer Support. “Macmillan were there for me,” Kiwi added. “I was in hospital for eight days and on about day four, everything got on top of me. When you hear cancer, the first thing that goes through your head is death.
“Macmillan supported me when I needed them most – and that doesn’t do justice to the work Macmillan has done, and continues to do, for me and so many others.”
Kiwi is thrilled to see Leyland SDM supporting Macmillan Cancer Support throughout October, when all customers are being given the opportunity to make a donation when they pay for their shopping.
He told us “I’m thrilled to see what Leyland SDM is doing.
“Macmillan can’t be where they are without the type of support Leyland SDM and its customers are providing in October.
“It may seem a really small thing for the people who are donating but it has a real impact on someone like me.
“My message to customers is you may give a donation and not be sure where the money is going. It’s going to people like me and to allow Macmillan to work even harder and help even more people in the future.
“Every single penny will go towards helping people with cancer in London so please, please keep giving what you can.
“I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
